What is MOS Certification? (Previously MOUS Certification)

Microsoft Office Specialist (formerly MOS) certification is the universally accepted standard assessment of desktop proficiency for the Microsoft office suite of applications. When potential employees are certified, hiring managers know they can hit the ground running. They know time and money won't be wasted on training and support.

That's why more companies are recognizing the MOS program as a standard assessment that differentiates proficient employees. The MOS program gives you proof you know how to use Microsoft Office applications efficiently and productively. To earn the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification for Microsoft Office or Microsoft Project, you must pass one or more certification exams. Office Specialist exams are developed and validated by industry experts and are available at over 9,000 Authorized Testing Centers worldwide.

Office Specialist exams provide a valid and reliable measure of technical proficiency and expertise by evaluating your overall comprehension of Office or Microsoft Project applications, your ability to use their advanced features, and your ability to integrate the Office applications with other software applications.

Levels of MOS Certification

There are 3 different levels of MOS Certification.

Core certification - For each Office application, and MS Project, you can obtain MOS Core certification. This is your basic MOS certification and is available individually for all applications.

For example, you can get certified in Excel as a Microsft Office Specialist.

Expert certification - For Excel and Word you can obtain MOS Expert certification. The Expert certification can be obtained individually for either Excel or Word.

Master certification - The MOS Master Certification is obtained by obtaining Expert certification in Word and Excel, and by otaining Core certification in Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
